How the mighty have fallen

Postby me@smu » Fri Apr 28, 2006 9:25 am

So recapping USC's program in the past week, they have uncovered Bush's parents housing situation, Winston Justice's association with the same wannabe marketing manager (Never mind Justice's previously being suspended for a year for putting a knife to someone's throat) and Brian Cushing and Mark Sanchez being arrested with Sanchez being suspended from school for sexual assault.

What really strikes me is the comment that Sanchez makes the third trojan arrested for sexual assault since last season (the other two had the charges voluntarily dropped).

Sadly the NCAA will do nothing because USC is their golden child for the moment.

I thought Justice was arrested for waving a fake gun at a student.
Either one is awful and stupid, of course.

USC's 'mightiness' fell in the Rose Bowl.

The truly mighty don't do that sort of thing. Thank God.

If the NCAA were to determine that Bush and the other player were ineligible because of this and cause those games to be forfeited would USC and the PAC 10 have to return the money from the BCS title game? The answer of course is no! Would that set off a round of bellyaching by the #3 team last year? Absolutely!! But that would of course change the official score in the Rose Bowl to 7-0, and all stats would be thrown out the window.

I thought the NCAA had unofficially ruled that the violations by Bush (if true) were not university violations and as such, they wouldn't be required to forfeit their games from 2005.

That said, I have heard that Pac 10 might vacate their conference championship from the records despite the NCAAs stance.

Of course the NCAA will act. The NCAA has no choice. The NCAA will confirm that USC has committed violation. Then the NCAA will pound its chest like Tarzan, give a mighty jungle cry, and punish some Division II men's golf program.

Yeah but the NCAA acting and stripping them of their wins are too very different things. I would love to see their scholies but cut a little bit and perhaps a ban on postseason play for a year...but we all know that the city of LA is too big of a market moneywise for the NCAA to do anything.

You are right me@,

The NCAA would never go after a private Methodist school located in a major metropolitan area.

Are you really trying to compare SMU in the early 80s to USC? It would be like SMU being UT in the DFW market (times 2) without the cowboys in it. If that was too happen, yes I would say NCAA wouldn't go after SMU either...
