Outsider’s thoughts

Postby soccermom » Sat Sep 07, 2024 3:54 pm

I’m not the outsider but wanted to share what someone unconnected to SMU said to me today.
Of course, everyone agreed of the many problems/concerns we all saw during the game.
This person said “I certainly hope SMU fans don’t give up on your team. Y’all need to continue to go to the games, be loud, cheer & support the team. Y’all might need to remember the teams you’re playing this year (from now on) are a whole different level of teams. It’s going to take a few years but you’re going in the right direction.” I was also told, from 2 different people, that most students at BYU are older when they start their college years so some of those players could have been nearly mid twenties.
Food for thought.

Average age of BYU football players, according to the NCAA, is 21.7. For what it's worth.

I'm an outsider as well, being a Clemson graduate.
I'll say this: yall showed well on TV the other night. The stadium looked crisp and bright, the ACC logo looked great on the field, and the fans and stands looked full. It's a shame the game didn't turn out like you wanted, but there will be others. Don't be too down over one loss or too high over one win (unless it's a rival or championship of some sort) Yall are where you belong (back in a power conference) and you're going to be just fine. Glad you're here.

Thanks BillgoCU. I think anytime you’re close to a program, and have wanted it to be successful again for so many years, we’re too quick to draw conclusions. Pre-season hype was just what we wanted to hear but it will take some time for all involved to improve & succeed.

Thank you. The sun is still shining this morning and we are still in the ACC, so the future is still bright! It was just a really really frustrating game, and took the shine off of our rebirth. On to the next one, and we are so happy to be here.

the team stared at their phones or into space during the mustang walk. No fan engagement at all. then they left the field before the school song.

This team is showing NO interest in the fans nor for the school. We are fans of SMU not these individuals nor this team. For goodness sake, bar a couple of truly extraordinary players (literally 5 or so) these guys are average at best (and not SEC average but FBS average)

Contunue to show you don't care about the school or fans and why then should we support this team?

For years, the team did the full/extended walk and the vast majority of fans couldn't have bother to put down their seventh cocktail to acknowledge the fans.
Goes both ways.
