More the Sonny Dykes ejection

Postby SMUguy » Sun Sep 22, 2024 12:31 pm

It's no secret that SMU and TCU recruit a lot of the same players ... many of whom were in attendance yesterday. If you're a recruit and you're considering SMU or (inexplicably) TCU, how does that ejection look? What if you're the PARENT of a player? How does it look? Yes, every coach gets emotional when "standing up for his team," but that just seemed different. Really bad look.

Also, football players fight, right? Whether it's in practice against a teammate or in a game, even when the player says "he hit me first!", what's the go-to answer from the coach afterward? "He's got to walk away, he's got to control his emotions, or he'll cost the team." Sonny Dykes can no longer say that to his players, because as a 54-year-old man, he can't control his emotions, either. His behavior was that of a crybaby throwing a tantrum. The game wasn't over when he blew a valve and got tossed, and he made things worse for his team.

Not saying he should be fired, but if I were the AD in Froggytown, we would be having a long chat Monday morning.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
...
"Hit it."

That donation was no coincidence and we all know what a slimy human being that guy is. “You can’t fire me, I just gave you a million dollars because I love it here so much. After all, I grew up being a tcu fan.”

Agree 100%, but you’re actually giving him a bit too much credit for the ”standing up for his team” part. The two penalties, ok; but the video of him clearly saying “eff you too” to the crowd while finishing his walk of shame? Exactly what you’re talking about, and should and will be used to recruit against him by every school going after a TCU target or commit.

Prediction: TCWho will soon learn him real good exactly what that donation bought him.

Was it an actual donation, or did he just forego part of his salary?

I think yall are overreacting to him being thrown out. I highly doubt any recruit cares about that.

I'm neither an athlete (never was) nor a parent of an athlete. But for many, as long as the NIL deal comes through, some moronic behavior is tolerated, I expect. You just don't hear as many comments as you used to about "I just wanted to play for a coach like that." To some, it was always like that, but now it's out in the open.
