Jennings Tabbed Semifinalist For Davey O’Brien Award
FORT WORTH, Texas (Davey O'Brien Foundation/SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The list of 16 semifinalists was selected after tabulation of the results of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee's ballots as well as bonus ballots applied through the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote.
This marks the fourth time the Davey O'Brien Award has noted Jennings' success, previously being named a part of its Great 8 List for Weeks 8 and 10, along with being added to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2024.
So far this season, Jennings is 127-196 through the air for 1,900 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also has added 317 yards on the ground and three scores.
He currently sits third nationally in yards per pass attempt (9.69) and fifth in passing yards per completion (14.96). Both numbers also sit atop the ACC.
Since being named the starter prior to the TCU game, Jennings has led the Mustangs to six consecutive wins, with all six being over power-conference opponents and five being ACC matchups. SMU has averaged 43 points per game during the winning streak.
The Oak Cliff native has also helped lead SMU to a historic 8-1 start, and the Mustangs are currently ranked 13th in the CFP rankings, the program's highest ranking in the history of the poll.
Jennings is one of three ACC quarterbacks represented on the list of semifinalists, joining Clemson's Cade Klubnik and Miami's Cam Ward. The redshirt sophomore is also one of just two underclassmen on the list, with Washington State redshirt sophomore John Mateer joining Jennings.
The next step in the process will be to select the award's three finalists. The finalists will again be chosen based on voting from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee as well as bonus ballots awarded from the second round of the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote.
For the fifth straight year, the Fan Vote takes place on the award's three social media platforms—Facebook,Instagram and Twitter (X)—and the top five vote getters on each platform will receive bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the National Selection Committee.
To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original Davey O'Brien Award post highlighting their quarterback. The second round will be open until Friday, Nov. 22 at 11:59 p.m. (CT). The three finalists will be revealed on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Looking ahead, the winner will be announced live on Thursday, Dec. 12, on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
