First Five Games

Let me phrase this clearly. First, we do tend to play down to the level of our opponents. (ECU, Tulane last year). Tech will be a near certain loss. Its their openner. They are going to be psyched. They play 10-20 points better in Lubbock for some reason. I have that one down as a loss. I do think that the other four games are winnable. Willis will learn against Tech and make some mistakes, but will be a better QB for games 2, 3, 4, and 5. We may stub our toe, but I think this is the year that Bennett either proves he is a Division 1 head coach or he proves that he isn't. I have to believe that he has learned much these last four years and will have the team ready to play all four of those games. For that reason in my optimistic pre-season mode, I am going with 4-1. We could very well go 2-3 if we lose badly to Tech and get spanked by UNT, or suffer a few key injuries.

mrydel, you've clearly been reading my posts for too long and I apologize for being such a bad influence on you. The next thing you know you'll be upgrading to somebody else's seats....

we also had some pretty disheartening performances in New Orleans in the late 70s early 80s. I can still remember Tulane getting about 600 yards on a team SMU fans thought was about to turn the corner. Hell Tulane has even embarrassed us in Dallas on several occasions. This will be an extremely emotional game for Tulane-the first real opportunity for the Tulane community to come together since Katrina-if you can't see the potential for that to be a trap game then you ain't been following football too long. Despite last year-Tulane's program is on par with the SMU program. Watch.

Katrina emotion won't get you much in a football game. Ask the Bayou Bengals about last year's "Monday Night Football comes to Baton Rouge" vs. Tennessee.
