From Calvin Watkins in the College Sports Blog today:
A reader asks: "It does concern me that Phil Bennett wants to get backup quarterack Corey Slater in as well - does he want to get him some snaps for experience or because he thinks the game will be out of hand early? On paper, and probably at the game, Tech is the superior opponent, but so was TCU."
Answer: Justin Willis is the starter and will only come out for injury or terrible performance, 3-14 five INT's something like that. Slater will come in only to get a series or so because he's never taken a snap in a Division I-A game. He has three quarterbacks who have never taken a Division I snap, so he's trying to get them the experience as much as he can.

Talked to redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Willis, who is acting real cool, John Legend cool, regarding his first college start on Saturday against Texas Tech. Willis said he's pretty anxious about the start because that's all anybody on campus has talked about.
He's also played against Tech starter Graham Harrell, to whom he lost as a junior in high school. SMU coach Phil Bennett said the team believes in Willis but expects the running game, led by DeMyron Martin, to pick up the offense.
