mixed results by former SMU QBs. Rickey Joe Meeks of NW Louisiana St. was 13-25 for 179 yards with 3 Ints in 47-10 loss to Baylor and Richard Bartel of Tarelton St. was 19 for 38 for 348 yards and 2 TDs in almost pulling an upset against Texas St 27-23.

I'm not surprised about Bartel. I always thought he had plenty of talent, but he wasn't ready to handle the environment he was thrust into when he got here.

I thought Bartel had a Division 1A arm but after watching him run for his life against Texas Tech in Lubbock he would have a very difficult time playing behind SMU's offensive line.

I do not understand the blocking scheme?
I do not see our guys blowing anyone off the line?????
Gap
On
Linebacker?
Or flow left
Flow right?
We have bigger faster linemen.
Again, I do not understand.
I do think the D does well until they get worn out.

Thanks to SMU in 2001 in letting Josh McCown get away to SHSU. Took us to the I-AA playoffs and ended up a 3rd round pick in the NFL draft.

Actually, that is Tarleton State's game from two weeks ago. Last week, bartel didn't do as well against SE Oklahoma; Bartel was 12 of 29 for 115 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns; two sacks as well.
I mentioned Meeks last week, but forgot to mention Bartel's game when I saw it. I was going to do the same this week, but neither did as well as the week before.
Also of note, after gaining just three yards on six carries last week, Richuel Massey did not play in Saturday's game against Baylor; no word of any injury.

I listened to that Tarleton St-Tx State game and Bartel was practically unstoppable. The Bobcats were VERY fortunate to get out of that game with a W.

For the record: it's Northwestern State University. There's no Louisiana State in the school's name. And it's Tarleton State University. And it's Texas State University - San Marcos.

True. Bartel has a big arm, but he'd have a hard time against a D-IA defense regardless of what line is in front of him. For all his throwing prowess, he made Tate Wallis look like a track star.
