Observations from THE WIN

• This just in: Justin Willis was out of his mind tonight (although Coach Bennett said after the game that he should have had two incompletions -- said Cedrick Dorsey gets all the credit for his touchdown, because Willis underthrew it a little!)

• The word is out on Jessie Henderson: Sam Houston didn't want to kick it anywhere near him. Considering he came into the game averaging 40 yards per kickoff return -- third in the nation -- it's hard to fault that logic.

• Hard to say if it was the offensive line playing well or the fact that Sam Houston's defensive line is weak, but Willis had tons of time and the RBs had huge lanes. Terrific job by the offensive line, including by backups like Chase Smith, Mitch Enright, Joe Holmes and Sean Lobo (false start penalty notwithstanding).

• Andrew McKinney and Will Bonilla each nearly killed a guy on special teams. Here's to more of the same.

• Emmanuel Sanders and Columbus Givens are going to make a LOT of big plays before they're through at SMU.

• Great to see some balls thrown in the direction of Ryan Kennedy: Big Fella still has terrific hands, and seems to be running well.

• Wilton McCray's interception was one hell of a catch.

• Jonathan Lindley had terrific coverage on a few pass plays, but he tackled a little high on several plays.

• Adrian Haywood was nearly unblockable, as Coach Bennett said he was in Lubbock. There were a handful of plays when he was in the backfield by the time the ball got back to the quarterback. 300-plus guys aren't supposed to be able to move that quickly.

• Thomas Morstead is going to bring down rain before the season's over. One of his punts just about reached eye level .... and I sit in the pressbox. It was ridiculous.

• Reggie Carrington can really cover a lot of ground for a big LB. Should make a lot of tackles from his MLB spot.

• Coach Bennett said Johnnie Fitzgerald sprained an ankle. But he also said DeMyron Martin is healing faster than originally expected, and could be back earlier than originally expected, perhaps as early as the UTEP game.

Gotta give props to Cory Muse on his game. And McKinney was insane on special teams. Just insane.

Nice to win a game we should have. It was complete and utter domination.

Cory Muse's stretch in the 2nd quarter was outstanding. Get the sack, block the punt and then intercept the screen...brilliant

My favorite part was seeing no dropped passes....was very proud of the SMU receivers tonight. They not only caught everything they should have, but made some tough catches as well. Chase did have one border line drop, but it would have been a tough one to haul in long over the middle, the ball was really floating.

Great job SMU receivers! and nice to see the TEs in the action. Good to see Chris Phillips finally get to play there in the fourth quarter, even if he was just blocking.

Last night we looked disciplined and we executed at every position, and look at the results. Now let's keep it up against a tougher opponent next week and get some momentum going into conference play.
