Fast Paced No Huddle?

Postby bagice » Sun Sep 24, 2006 8:14 pm

Reading the articles and comments from the Arkansas State journalists, there is one common theme: SMU's no huddle offense was much more fast paced than they expected and were out of position on many snaps because of SMU's pace.

Anyone else notice this?

To me, it looked just like the speed we always do it, not fast...not slow...about the same time you would spend if you huddled and called the play rather than calling it at the line.

Not sure if this is just comments from someone not used to seeing SMU play regularly or if we really were faster than we normally are.

Anyway...brings up a good point, SMU should be comfortable with the no huddle now considering we have run it for years now. Maybe we should be trying to speed it up a bit.

For those interested, here is the link to the Jonesboro paper's article:

I did notice several of the SMU linemen signalling to the sideline to keep the pace up and call the plays early in the first quarter. You are right, several plays ARK state'd defence wasn't set for the play.

I was the guy screaming from the stands to hurry the F up. It wasn't us, it was them. Arkansas State looked clueless. In the first half, it took them forever to get set.

A State was calling in defenses while we were lined up ready. Had we quick snapped a few times it would have been a walk to the end zone. One particular play the defense was still turned to the sideline when the ball was snapped and we picked up about 15 yards on one of our patented 2 yard out passes. They were not prepared for the no huddle and there is no excuse for that. It is all we have run for 5 years.

Correct. 3 not 5.

I corrected, but still believe Arkansas State could have assumed we might use it.
