Technical issues (obviously) over the last couple of days. Sorry about that.
As to the original question:
I talked to Kenard Burley Tuesday, and asked specifically about reports that the new field surface at the SuperDome reportedly is still quite slick, that players were slipping and sliding in Monday's Saints/Falcons game. He said that it's not as big a deal for linemen as it is for skill position players, because there obviously is not as much cutting and quick changes of direction -- linemen do move, of course, but when they get locked up with an opposing lineman, there's more of an emphasis on strength, size and weight, reducing (although not entirely eliminating) the likelihood of slipping. With that said, he also said he was breaking in a new
pair of cleats, and echoed Coach Bennett's comments from the media lunch that they will take multiple kinds (and lengths) of cleats in order to have options. Coach Bennett also said that the team will practice Friday in the Dome (whereas some road trips involve a practice/walk-through on another field) so the Ponies can start to get used to the field.
