SMU Band Road Games in 1997

Postby ThadFilms » Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:42 pm

Help me recall - did we (the band) travel to Tulsa that year? I remember going to Louisiana for the "home game" in Viva Las Shreveport vs. Arkansas and then taking the "road trip" to TCU at the end of the year.... but did we go to Tulsa the week before the TCU game?

My memory says that we did not... that there was talk early in the season about a trip to Tulsa, but it was up in the air due to a tight budget. And if we did not go.. that's a shame.... it was one of our few nearby road games.

I have a thin sliver of a memory of being there, but I do not remember it being with the band. Wondering if I road tripped it with band members.... or honestly whether I was there at all. Of course, if somebody of that era can clearly recall the band making that trip, I would appreciate knowing - I am just trying to figure out the last SMU true road game that I have attended (before this Tulane game) that SMU won. Or if I have ever been to a true road (visiting team) win.

My memory is shot.

I have a ticket stub to SMU's road win over Arkansas in 1996 (my senior year in high school) - it was played in Little Rock - SMU won that game. Have to check with my bro to see if we went to that game, or if I just have his ticket stub. I'm pretty sure I was there and that would qualify as my most recent road victory attended... reason I am hesitant to say yes I was actually at that game is that I have clear memories of the road trip my bro and I made the year before to Houston... a loss.... and no clear memories of that trip.

.... oh wait - now I've figured it out .... I could not possibly have been at that Tulsa game on 11/15/97 - thinking of my brother - that was the day of his wedding.

Well.... seeing as I have typed this much... did the band go to the Tulsa game on 11/15/97? And now that I have typed all of this... I think they did - or at least a traveling-road-tripping contingent did with their instruments.

Nope. Officially, the band did not go. I think there were quite a few people that went on their own.

Thanks... and now that I recall where I was... pretty exciting. It was one of my many duties as best man to get updates and pass them on to my bro during the day leading up to the wedding (and maybe even during).

Band didn't go, but a lot of us traveled up on our own. If I recall correctly, we won that game 42-41. ... and it was really cold.
