No, this was "Ethical Implications of Children's Literature" with Marth Satz. [for you law types, disclaimer: I'm not implying that Satz is a biggot, only that I got that impression, which may or may not be real]

If you want this WHOLE situation cleared up quicker I ask ALL OF YOU to email the Dean of Student Life, DEE CISCO.
She is the head Dean that deals with matters like this.
or you can email the assistant Dean
BUT PLEASE EMAIL THEM...

Are you out of your mind? Notwithstanding the slowness of this issue (of which I can think of several reasons that are out of the university's control to speed it up...i.e. the fact that until tomorrow, they have been out on fall break), the university is handling this appropriately.

It may suck for our team, but the university isn't doing this wrong.
Now, Residence Life deserves a public flogging for allowing the harassment to go on, and Justin deserves at least a little guff for the importance of keeping his head about him (he shows better poise with 280 lb guys trying to kill him) during tough situations.
But the university in general is following a pretty good protocol.

I have no clue what the academic community thinks of this, and frankly, I do not care. They are no more important as a constituency than anyone else in the university. Everybody should just decide that they are going to be patient for a bit until the police finish theirs and the school completes their deliberation.

Does it suck for the team? Yep. And Justin? Yep, it sucks for him too.
And Beard? I betcha his narcissism prevents him at this point from realizing what kind of world of crap is coming his way, right-wrong-or-indifferent.

But unfortunately, slow is the best way to sort this out. Otherwise, somebody gets to experience a rush to judgment, and there is no justice or peace in that.

At least it is Marshall U. that Slater is up against....and he has had a week to prepare. At this point, even if Justin came back, he hasn't even seen film on Marshall. So he might as well use the time wisely.

And so should you...and NOT by emailing the Dean of Student Life. If I am her, I wouldn't and couldn't care less about that right now.

Please tell me this is sarcasm. The majority of the faculty is so full of [deleted]...

On another note, can someone post a link to this if they find it? I had no luck...

So is your loyalty to - and pride in - your alma mater based solely on athletics?
SMU is an excellent academic institution, and many of the faculty are exemplary.

Corso...not sure if your question was directed at me or not, so I will answer anyway.

No, my support of SMU runs the gamut.

I simply think that to overexaggerate the importance of faculty opinion outside of academic inquiry is laughable.

I am all for emailing Orsini, Bennett and Turner, but emailing Dee Cisco is a bad idea.

I tend to agree that emailing Cisco is a bad idea. First, she'll have gathered more facts than you or I know, so we'll look stupid. Second, she'll probably hit the delete key or worse set her filters to throw every email using the word Willis or Beard into the trash bin so they won't be read. What would make a better impact is for you to take out a sheet of paper and write a rational letter to her in your own beautiful cursive handwriting, saying that you hope that Willis will be allowed to stay in school and that he be allowed to return to the football field as soon as possible from this regrettable incident. You might add that from what you have heard, you hope that she makes sure that he knows that her office door is always open to him and other students who feel that they have a problem that seems insurmountable. That is the type of letter that she might respond well too.
