Why are they leaving us in the dark......

Postby MustangMan2001 » Tue Oct 10, 2006 9:27 pm

Why is it that the athletic department will not come out and tell us why Justin Willis is not being reinstated. My personal opinion is that they are trying to control the damage, yet it is actually just making things worse. I have yet to hear PB come out and show any sign of support for JWill. Even if someone doesn't come out and spill the beans about what is really going on, is it too much to ask to simply say that they are standing by him and will do anything in their power to get him through this situation.

My guess...if this doesn't work out soon, Bennett may be looking for a new job. What are your thoughts on that?

It is because they are not done with the investigation.

Anytime a player is out after curfew he has a chance of getting suspended.

Anytime a player has to have a judicial hearing with the Dean of Student Life, he could be suspended.

I believe these 2 rules are in the Football Player Code of Conduct Book they receive when they join the team.

Those are reasons he was suspended.

Welcome to SMU. In anything related to football, things are done in the most A-backwards idiotic way. SMU cares more about its image to football-hating academics than it does about winning.

Law suits that why no one from SMU is talking and that is why the suspension stands for the time being.

law suits are a dime a dozen. Reinstate and let the chips fall where they may.

I agree but it cost money to defend them and the AD sure don't need that problem when he is trying to raise $10 or @!2 M for the basketball team.

The guy has no real case. Come on. If it goes to court, the worst willis can expect is some community service that he should be doing anyway as an SMU player marketing the team.

I mean really, the guy didn't even go to the hospital. Did he even get stitches? I'm sure people get hurt worse getting lightly hazed or stumbling home drunk. I guy asked, and deserved, it. Willis was wrong too, but he has learned his lesson, I'm sure.

This whole thing is just hurting SMU's image, based on radio callers and everyone I have talked too. I've been told my alma mater is everything from cowards to "tacit biggots" trying to "show the rich white people in Highland Park that they can keep their colored folk in line." Really, where is the benefit of drawing this out?

Interesting, and a little strange, type of people you hang out with.

Just curious, but how can SMU be held liable for reinstating a player? The act occurred off campus, it is in the hands of the Dallas police, no one has been accussed or arrested or indicted or certainly not judged. If someone has been found guilty it is not up to SMU to hand out punishment. Quite frankly, had I been either party, I would have wanted this handled privately, until cooler heads prevailed, etc. But then again, that is how men used to handle this.

Hell...reinstate Willis and show you've got some b*lls, Orsini! If you do, I'll bet a LOT of folks will step up to the plate to contribute to the new bball facility...and other sports! If not, well...you can kiss alot of those $$$ bye-bye.

SMU faces no liability in this situation. Imagine what what would happen if the school got sued every time a student got hit at the Green Elephant by another student - there would be no endowment left. Only potential liability here is for Willis from the guy who allegedly stalked him. Not a great case for a number of reasons. This mess needs to end now. If the alleged stalker wants to sue Willis in civil court, let him go for it, but that should have no bearing on Willis' playing football or going to school.

Spring already? Dangit! I just was dusting off my jackets for some cold weather.

I would agree that it has probably taken this long because school has been out for the past couple of days. I hope we hear something today or early tomorrow. At this point though, if Justin gets reinstated, he will only have a couple of days until the game to prepare. I'm not sure if that would be best for the team. Of course, I'm not the coach.

You are not the coach?

Well - don't feel bad. At least you can tell the difference between
