Texas's Top Ten

Postby perunapower » Fri Oct 13, 2006 9:42 pm

Kevin Sherrington rates the state's 10 Division I-A football programs:

Rank, team Comment
1. Texas Two in a row over Oklahoma a salve for Ohio State
2. Texas Tech Mike Leach probably figures this is too high
3. TCU So does Gary Patterson
4. Texas A&M Kansas rally stops clock on Dennis Franchione's exit
5. Houston Six points from a 6-0 record
6. Baylor Bears roll to a stop today
7. SMU Phil Bennett gets his QB back and maybe a reprieve
8. UT-El Paso Miners digging wrong direction
9. Rice Credit for one of nation's toughest schedules
10. North Texas Coming in two weeks: Troy. Beware Brad Pitt's spear

After Rice got rolled at Tulane, that list looks about right. Tomorrow will tell a lot about all these teams. Will Houston recoup and win on the road at USM? Will SMU beat Marshall (soundly?) for a good conference win? Will Baylor get blown out? Will Colorado win its first game with Tech in town, hold tight or get blown out? UNT went to seven OTs at home versus a winless FIU? Sherrington recognizes that TCU's losses at Utah and at home to BYU weren't pushover teams. BYU is a very strong team this year.

Houston or A&M should be third.

That's true. They also hung within a single point at Miami.
I just like their talent and coaching better than that in frogland.
But I guess this is more of an indictment of TCU than an endorsement of A&M or Houston.
