DEVIN LOWERY NAMED C-USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKLowery Named C-USA Player Of The Week
DB Picked Off Three Passes In Win Over Marshall Oct. 16, 2006 DALLAS (SMU/C-USA) - Following SMU's 31-21 win over Marshall, defensive back Devin Lowery has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. Lowery had had three interceptions in SMU's win over the Herd, becoming just the eighth player in school history to notch three picks in a game. He also had seven stops as SMU improved to 4-3, its best start since a 5-2 mark in 1986. Lowery is the second SMU defender to win the award this season, as defensive tackle Adrian Haywood was honored following the Tulane win. Lowery is in his first season at defensive back after switching from wide receiver in the spring. SMU returns to the gridiron on Saturday, Oct. 21, when the Mustangs travel to North Carolina to take on ECU at 2 p.m. Central. "It’s hard to overstate how impressive SMU has been on the recruiting trail since the ACC announced the Mustangs would be joining the league”

I guess Rich Phillips is "going to quit", as Willis was not honored with offensive player of the week honors. He and Swannie were talking at the end of the game and Rich, in his signature Rich manner stated: "If Justin Willis doesn't win Confernce USA offensive player again this week, then I quit."
Please, Rich, stay! Congrats Devin. Great job on Saturday! ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Who got Offensive Player of the Week?
where his numbers much better that Willis'? Sports, and all that implies.
Hard to say... From the CUSA Website - Oct. 16 Football Players of the Week Dillard, Lowery and Higgins Honored After Winning Conference Games Oct. 16, 2006 Rice sophomore wide receiver Jarret Dillard, SMU junior DB Devin Lowery and UTEP senior PR Johnnie Lee Higgins have been named the October 16 Conference USA Players of the Week. The trio had outstanding performances to lead their teams to Conference USA victories on Saturday. OFFENSE Jarett Dillard WR Rice Dillard caught nine passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns, the last of them with 3.5 seconds remaining to give the Owls a 34-33 win over UAB. It was the second time in the last three games that Dillard has caught three TD passes. His three TDs on the night allowed him to set a Rice single-season record with 11 TD grabs. Dillard has now caught a TD pass in nine consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country. DEFENSE Devin Lowery DB SMU Lowery had three interceptions in SMU's win over Marshall, becoming just the eighth player in school history to notch three picks in a game. He also had seven stops as SMU improved to 4-3, its best start since a 5-2 mark in 1986. SPECIAL TEAMS Johnnie Lee Higgins PR UTEP Higgins became the first Miner in 40 years to return a punt for a touchdown in back-to-back games. He returned a kick 88 yards for a TD in the second quarter against Tulane. It was the longest punt return by a UTEP player since 1967 and the fourth-longest in school history. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
9-111 for three touches is pretty good . . . and I guess his last was of the dramatic fashion it made the conference stand and take notice...good for him.
Sports, and all that implies.
Agreed. And again... congrats to Devin. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
9-111, thats why Dillard is one of the best receivers in the nation.
And congrats to DLo on those 3 picks.
Slow down there. He's good, but "one of the best receivers in the nation"? No. He's nowhere near Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech), Dwayne Jarrett (USC), etc.
Pride, I meant statistically speaking.
He is 2nd in the NATION in REC YARDS. I never said he was one of the best compared to Cal Jo. or D. Jarrett, or even Ted Ginn and Ant Gonzo. I just meant that he puts up great numbers and is a leader in CUSA and 2nd in the Nation when it comes to his position. He was rated one of the best thru the halfway point in CUSA.
