Garrett W. Haake.... How's he doing? He should be a senior now... is he still at SMU? Does he still go to games?
I hope so on both of the last two... and yes, I also hope he's doing well.
From the thread about the goalposts:
Special_Delivery_Smu_Fans wrote:SMU 36 San Jose 13Sept 25, 2004 Four SMU students succeed in tearing down the South goal post at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on September 25, 2004. After police deterred students from tearing down the north goal post, they turned around and proceeded to the slightly guarded South goal post. The victory marked an end to the Mustang's 15-game losing streak. A member of the CSC Event Staff stands guard at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on September 25, 2004. CSC was among 5 different groups, including 4 Police municipalities, that tried to prevent students from rushing the field after SMU beat San Jose State, ending the 15 game losing streak. Paramedics assist SMU student Garrett W. Haake, 19. He was injured while fans pulled down the goalpost after SMU's win. According to reports, his skull was fractured, but he has no brain damage. David Haake, Garrett’s father, said his son is still in intensive care. “He’s improving, and he’s looking forward to coming back to school. He will be fine in time,†he said. Jim Caswell, the vice president of student affairs, said he and the rest of the university continue to be concerned about Haake’s health and well-being.

Garrett is still in school, and doing very well, soon to be a star TV reporter/anchor, or somesuch (I think). Good writer, and a good guy.

Great that makes me so happy to hear.... and now that I know he is welll - he is going to have a heckuva' story for the rest of his life. "See those kooky goalposts kids, that was all me."
And damn all the guys (and gals) that are seniors now.... what a career for watching pony football. 0-12 your Freshman year..... partying your sophomore year after the team snaps the schools longest losing streak. Beating a Top 25 TCU your junior year.... and with three games to go in your senior season the team controls their own destiny in terms of a conference championship. What a career?!?

Haha true. As a senior myself, it has been a wild ride, from winless, to a huge win, to beating TCU and maybe a bowl game? Either way, they are improving, but they're just not quite there. SMU's biggest flaw is not being able to win on the road. There were 2 games they could have won on the road, and had they won, they'd be 7-2 right now.

Being a senior, what irks me is that some underclassmen now say the UNT game this year, the Tulane game from last year, or the TCU loss before that was the worst SMU loss ever.
Nope, no way, nada, after that 0-12 season, those don't even make my top ten...

Also a Senior having seen the 2003, 04, 05, and 06 seasons, here is how I would categorize the games I have seen:
Best home wins:
1) TCU in 2005
2) SJ State in 2004 - we witnessed our first win in football 3 games into the season of our SOPHOMORE year.
3) OT Win over Tulsa on Homecoming Weekend 2004
Best Road Wins:
1) UAB in 2005 - The very definition of last second heroics...
2) Tulane in 2006 - First college game in the Superdome post-Katrina, Henderson's kickoff return snatches momentum back after Tulane had taken the lead late in the game
3) Houston in 2005
Embarassing losses:
1) UNT in 2006
2) Any of our blowouts from the 2003 Season, most notably watching OSU's Rashaun Woods set the NCAA record for touchdown catches in a single game by the third quarter, catching the ball even when our guys were getting flagged for pass interference
3) Tulane in 2005
With three games left this season, the win that may rival the ecstasy of beating TCU will be the one that gets us to a BOWL GAME! Go stangs.

A good assessment. Where does the Navy game (when the south end zone at Ford Stadium was set on fire!) fall in your rankings?

Navy game/fire/debacle was when I was a freshman (2002) - I'm c/o '06.
I remember that game well, though. Everyone thought we were gonna be the shiznit that year with our brand spankin' new coach. We even scored first on a long TD, but that game quickly became more embarrassing than the scorched south end zone.
GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
