SMU MENTIONED ON COLD PIZZA!

Postby Mustangunner » Tue Nov 14, 2006 1:48 pm

Today on Cold Pizza Woody Page mentioned that the SMU-TCU game in 1935 was a bigger game than the one comming up between Ohio State and Michigan :D
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I talk.

..until 1969's ut / Ark game, this was the biggest game in SWC history.

"Wives were astonished when husbands refused to relinquish a ticket to TCU Stadium for $15, which represented three weeks groceries for a family of four."

Bobby Wilson, the Mighty Midget from Corsicana, at 5-10, 148, was an All-America. Sammy Baugh, a major league baseball shortstop prospect, threw the ball with such accuracy and velocity, no one had ever seen anything like it...

The Ponies were loose..the frogs were tight, in fact, Baugh completed only 7 of his first 27 passes, 9 were dropped....Baugh was 17 of 45 for the day.

Final SMU 20 tcu 14. SMU, first team west of the Mississippi to go to the Rose Bowl. Grantland Rice was there...wild scene on the field after the W, as Mustang fans stormed and swarmed the Mustangs...maybe something parallel to this will happen after the Tulsa game?

I think every game in the history of the Rose Bowl has featured a team west of the Mississippi, before and after 1935.

Now, if you are refering to the non-West Coast teams...
