JT's Litt' Buddy-You could probably get 100-1 odds on the New Orleans Bowl by-passing Southern Miss to get SMU when they both have identical records. Are you absolutely crazy-did you start the weekend early on Wednesday Nite-are you mentally challenged in anyway-do you wear a pretty pink silk panties and watch Dancing With the Stars? Let me assure you that Southern Miss would bring 5 times more fans than SMU to New Orleans. Geographically, Southern Miss is the ideal Gulf Coast anchor for that bowl.

At least we can agree that it would be nice for Marshall to beat UTEP 8) .

We really need to be 7-5 to really have a chance to go to a bowl. Sure, there is a slight chance that 6-6 could sneak us in if some crazy stuff happens, but probably not.

If we go 7-5, a Marshall win over UTEP would gaurantee us a spot, since there could be no more than 5 teams with at least 7 wins.

If UTEP wins, however, they are pratically a cinch to get to 7 wins considering they play Memphis at home their last game. That now leaves one spot for SMU, ECU, and Rice to fight for. If ECU wins, that spot is theirs and we are shut out. That is 5 teams at 7-5 or better.

So I don't see how anyone can say that ECU winning would be good for SMU. That gives them a lock on one of the last spots and it would require UTEP to lose one of their last two.

To tell ya the truth, I honestly feel that if we win out we will be going to the N.O. bowl. sure you can bring up the chance of us getting shut out with 7-5 record but I don't see that happening.

If we don't beat Tulsa then the seasons over with. We are battling UTEP and Rice for the last bowl bid. Yes, the people in EP would travel better than us but by winning out, we put more pressure on UTEP to win out.

2 wins = bowl game
1 win = 1st .500 season in a decade (no bowl game
0 wins = PB is gone.

As simple as that in my opinion

Well,

I can tell you that if ECU beats Rice and UTEP beats Marshall ( and then beats Memphis which is almost certain) then we can do whatever we want, even at 7-5, we will not go bowling.

We need either ECU or UTEP to not make 7 wins which is why I want Rice to win just as much as Marshall.

You're assuming Southern Miss also gets to 7. BTW there is a possibility that the Ft Worth and New Orleans Bowl could agree to send SMU and Southern Miss respectively to those bowls. Last year these bowls were brokered for the good of the teams, the bowls and CUSA. That would make some sense.

Nearly every bowl projection I have seen has TCU in the Ft. Worth Bowl. As interesting as that may be, I can't see ESPN allowing two schools from the same media market to play in the same bowl game.

Correct you are, I just don't see them not winning at least one of the next two home games against UAB and Memphis, in fact they will most probably win them both to be 8-4.

The NO Bowl is definitely the bottom feeder of the CUSA bowls and I can see USM going there only as a last resort, especially considering they played in it last year. At 8-4 and a possible berth in the championship game, I see them doing better than the NO bowl.

just need to root for SMU to win these last 2 games. Don't want to be 6-6 and up against UTEP for a bid somewhere. Will take my chances against a 6-6 Rice, but would feel better if we at least beat them

6-6=NO bowl, and I ain't talking about this team spending the post season in the Big Easy. Maybe in a big easy chair watching it on TV....
