Kicking Game

Postby Pony_Fan » Wed Aug 06, 2003 7:58 pm

Question:
Are we going to be able to kick an extra point, punt, and kick a field goal longer than 20 yards this year?

I was really surprised at the lack of discipline and talent on special teams last year...it was quite embarassing at the collegiate level.

Let's not make blanket statements here. I believe that we had just a bit of success in the return game Image.

Hopefully McMurtray will come through for us. I think our punting game is in fine hands with Ryan, he going to be a quality punter by the time he leaves the hilltop.

There was a definate improvement as the year went on, as well as from the year before to last year. I think we can expect the improvement to continue into this year since we have not lost any major players and the young players have grown up a little. On top of that, we have gotten a little faster as a team. So I think we can probably expect average special teams play.

Lack of discipline in more than one way.... I remember last year during the season witnessing the kickers spending some time in Ford practicing on their own with no coach around... too bad they kicked about 4 balls each (didn't make them all, btw) and spent most of the time slowly climbing the stands to get their balls back, or talking.....

Couch 'Em - if that is true that should not be tolerated....the Big Tuna knows this Image
Bennett didn't seem to care last year.

I was just a bit suprised in the repeated bad kicking game - recruit a soccer player or a walk on....kicking and special teams is where you make up the bad plays on the field.

Let's hope it gets better this year!
