Notre Dame always has made me wretch, and always will.
Nonetheless, it's normal that previous jobs for any administrator will Affect future decisions.

No big deal, but if we're all editing, it's "retch," not "wretch."

re: then he would be go to a big school..
Coaches/AD's leave little schools and big schools.
It would certainly be a "great problem" for SMU to have that a big powerhouse program would want our coach.

well, he comes from a place with a storied tradition of football...to a place that has a scattered but storied history of success on the gridiron. He SHOULD EXPECT the same degree of enthusiasm for our football program, albeit on a smaller scale. I agree with those who think SMU should be in the hunt for CUSA championships EVERY YEAR. No expectations, no results. Period.
Orsini has a tough decision because it's never easy firing people, but Phil Bennett is well enough connected that he will be fine...and these buyouts coaches get these days set them up pretty well financially. As for our players bailing out...yes, some might do that...but hopefuly these guys chose SMU because of the school, their teammates, the city, CUSA, the chance to play,etc... in other words, for a lot of reasons OTHER THAN who the coach was.
I was impressed that Orsini was able to get Doherty here. If he fires Bennett and brings in someone who can do to football what Doherty appears to be doing for hoops, I'm going to be fully supportive.

You have got to be kidding me!! Orsini had nothing to do with what happened at ND. The school itself recruits the players, everyone else is just a figurehead. He was the biggest figurehead of all as the assistant AD. Where do you people live?? Don't even mention Doherty, the coach who could not even coach at his own alma mata. He was without a job and could not find a job, so he took the first thing he could find through his BUDDY ORSINI!! Orsini has a plan that has nothing to do with SMU. It is a stepping stone for him to go back to where he came from and SMU is just another job on his resume, Doherty fits this bill also. We have the best that we can get. Write this down and send it to DMN. If PB goes, first year 0-12, second year, 2-10, third year 4-8 maybe, where does it end. My question to all of you is this? When the search committed began the search, what happened to all the assistant AD's at Texas Texas A&M, Texas Tech and so on. What the hell is going on at SMU. Do we want a footabll tradition again, or we just paying people to pad their resumes?
