Re: Josh McCown scoresI'm happy for McCown and the post-SMU success he's had, but it doesn't change the fact that he was mediocre to bad when he played for the Mustangs. Blame it on Cavan if you want, but the guy rarely played well and more often than not was throwing INTs. Let's hope Bartel becomes the unequivocal best post-dp qb. The competiton isn't that stiff . . .
Re: Josh McCown scoresObviously there were some issues developing QB's at SMU in the past. Remember Chris Sanders. He went on the destroy the record books at 1-AA or D-2 UT-Chatanooga. Also played in the NFL for a few.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Thankfully, Bennett is recruiting guys 280+, giving us the chance to have 300 lbs upper class (jr-sr) lineman in the line-up beginning in a couple of years.
Re: Josh McCown scores93- It seems you are missing the point. McCown wasn't bad for SMU. SMU didn't have a very good coach especially when it came to bringing QB's along. That has been rehashed here ad nauseum. NO ONE can be good without an offensive line and time to throw. It also helps a lot to have top recievers who can run disciplined routes. McCown nor Sanders had these necessities nor a coach who did anything to help them get into good positions or help their confidence. Ramon was good- he got benched for Sanders. Sandrs was good- he got benched for Mccown. McCown was good- aw you get the idea.
Re: Josh McCown scoresOf course Bennet was not McCown's coach, but he certainly could use some help with QB's and the offense. My point is that SHSU and JHS have shown they know how to use a talented passing QB; so Bennett, too, should take notes.

Re: Josh McCown scoresOf course Cavan was the coach that misused McCown, but last year Bennett did not show much ability to develop a passing game either. Bennett has been a defensive specialist and it showed. He may be learning how to coach a whole team, let's hope so. The youngest McCown did the right thing by going to La Tech where they at least feature the passing offense. Josh should have gone there too.
