During tonight's Heisman trophy presentation, it was mentioned that Archie Griffin is the only two-time Heisman trophy winner (1974 & 1975).
What many people do not know is that SMU's Doak Walker very well could have been the first two-time Heisman trophy winner. He won the award as a junior in 1948. His name was on the list in 1949 and many people figured he would win it again that year. Unfortunately, injury limited Doak's playing abilities that season and he asked that his name be removed from the Heisman list and it was. A class act by the Doaker. I doubt you'd see any player do that these days.
It's always great to hear Doak's name mentioned each year during the Heisman trophy presenation.
