Conference Average Rankings

Postby Mountain Mustang » Wed Dec 20, 2006 9:38 pm

Using CBSsportsline's CFB 119 Rankings, I compiled a list of average rankings per conference just to see where each one stacked up (yes I have that much time on my hands while at work). I thought it would be a good way to measure conferences from top to bottom.

Here's the list:
1. SEC- Avg. Rank 39.08 Big10 won't like this
2. Big East- 43
3. PAC 10- 47
4. Big 12- 47
5. Big 10- 50 - 11 spots behind SEC on average
6. ACC- 52
7. MWC- 68
8. WAC- 73
9. CUSA-73 (tenths of a point lower than the WAC)
10. Mid American- 79
11. Sunbelt- 93

Thoughts...
SEC is the most dominant conference in the land this year.
THe Big East is a better conference than their given credit for (this year).
This really shows the clear separation between BCS and non-BCS conferences.
The Sunbelt really sucks.

I looked at using the Sagarin ratings, but any poll that has a national championship game participant ranked #6 loses a lot of credibility (IMO).
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

The only surprise in that list is the Big East. We'll see how they fare in the bowls against competition from other conferences.

I'd say it just shows how ridiculous the whole system is.
