Signing Party in HoustonAny PonyFans going to be at the signing party tomorrow?
Signing Day event here in Houston was fantastic. Not a bad turnout and some former SMU football players in attendance. Adami, KG, Comet, and even Jerry Ball all at the event tonight. Might have been other football alums I did not recognize too.
I can't help but get pumped when PB talks. I admit to being very critical of the slow progress we have made in his tenure but the guy still gets me excited about SMU football and its easy to see why guys like playing for him so much. A few things I took away from the signing day event that might not be known to everyone. - PB spoke rather candidly about the Rice game. Made the comment that we will be running and practicing QB sneaks this year (in response to the first and goal disasters at Rice). - We recently had an assistant coach interview with Alabama and he decided to stay at SMU. Apparently 3 coaches received offers this offseason and stayed here. - JT Brooks is an SMU legacy. - Bailey will play free safety at SMU. He will prolly contribute this season. Bell will prolly contribute this season as a Nickel or Dime corner. A WR, possibly Haynes, has a chance to play this year also. Dennis will certainly be playing this season. I'll post more as I remember bits and pieces from the night.
I think we had just under 100 people there. Bob Sharp with Mustang Club was there. Kevin Knox with the Cox school was there. Chip Hiemenz with Young Alumni Relations was there.
MustangIcon covered all the bases. You know we are turning the corner when Jerry Ball and his wife show up out of the blue. The highlights of the 2007 recruits versus 2006 recruits were noticable. A lot of speed guys who have a second and third gear when escaping defenders. Don't remember OL recruits from previous years pancaking so many people like this years crop. Youri Yenga is an animal. PB told multiple stories about current players to let us know how much his guys hate to lose. If you take everything at face value, next year should be the year. If any of you guys have not renewed your membership to the Mustang Club, now is the time. The Mustang Club helps us recruit better players by giving our coaches and recruiters the tools they need to get the best players from all over the state and nation. We are 10th out of 12 CUSA teams in our Booster Club membership. "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion" - Rudy T.
You are so right. If you have not renewed your membership, or have interest in joining the Mustang Club, send me a p.m.!
