Secondary

Did anyone else leave the Red/Blue game thinking Brandon Jones locked up a starting CB spot across from Jonathan Lindley? I sure did.

I also feel better about the safety group of Hudman, Dennis, Haynes and Ellis than I did when the game started. Could always be better, of course, but I think the secondary is a little better off than many of us thought.

Don't forget about McCann either. Ples DeVon Bailey and/or Derrius Bell might be players ready to contribute as true freshman. Everytime I have heard Bennett asked about this class he has indicated he thinks Bailey will have a good chance to contribute right away. He has also mentioned that some of the freshman WRs might get a strong look too.

I'd think they'd almost have to work a freshman WR in the mix. With Chase, Pellerin and Warren done, and Jay'Mond Cleveland retiring because of recurring injury, and with the uncertainty about how close to 100 percent Phillip Burley will be, and with A'Darius Medford now playing CB .... that's a lot to replace.

Did everyone see Bradley Haynes at the Red/Blue game? Sure looks the part, if nothing else. Don't know if any other freshman WRs were there or not -- Haynes was the only one I saw.

If they are capable, there is never a problem with using a skill position Freshman. To go farther, if they are capable and the best available, you should get them on the field as quick and often as possible. It is the up front guys, especially the ones that we (mid majors typically) get that need a year of redshirt. They need time to build strength and technique to play at Div I level. But again, speed and natural talent warrants using Freshmen immediately if they are the best you have.

If Givens loses a lot of strength/weight, isn't there a chance he could redshirt, too? Freshman WRs will need to play.

Didn't Coach Bennett say on Signing Day something about Rodney Bradley being close to being ready to play?

Are you kidding me...the kid weighs about a buck 50 how much more weight could he lose. The kid also has never had any strength to begin with so I don't think that would be much of a problem.

Well yes, he always has been slender, but losing some strength certainly has to be a consideration, right?

Before meningitis he benched like 310.

That's about as strong as Ryan Wolcott at his size.
