188 SMU athletes on C-USA honor roll

188 SMU Student-Athletes Named To Conference USA Commissioner's Honor
Roll
April 17, 2007

IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) - A total of 188 SMU student-athletes have
been named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll during the
2006-07 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today.
Student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll maintain a
cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

UCF placed the highest number of student-athletes on the honor roll,
producing 190 members. SMU followed close behind with 188, while Rice
ranked third with 183 student-athletes on the list.

Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better also receive
the Commissioner's Academic Medal. Those winners will be released
tomorrow.

How could a former junior college player like Troy Therien ever be on an honor roll? I was led to believe that admitting a junior college student would be the end of SMU's academic reputation. Oh yeah, SMU always freely admitted jucos. Just not if they played football. Perhaps admitting a junior college athlete doesn't spell doom after all.
