Bobby Collins XX and OO's`

Postby PonyKai » Fri Jun 01, 2007 10:56 am

This question would probably be reserved for the old guard of fans or anyone that fancies themself a historian.

What kind of technical coach was Bobby Collins? He fell off the radar after SMU and our unpleasantries, and he continued to 'recruit' terriffic athletes while he was hear, but was he a good game day coach? What kind of play caller was he?

From my point of view has used his assistant coaches very well and trusted their calls.

Collins and Meyer had great staffs. They trusted the assistants and delegated accordingly, but in the end the buck stopped with them. Both were great game day coaches because of their relationships with their coaches.

Collins had a tough choice whether to scrap Meyers passing offense with Mike Ford (after Ford recovered from injuries) and stay with a veer type offense with McIlhenney. He bit the bullet and we had great success. A good game coach adjusts to fit his players. He didn't try the swinging gate against Arkansas with the SWC Championship on the line.

Proud and happy to have been in the stands, on the Texas side on the 50. What a great day. That is what we "old guard" as some say are looking to find again. Be sure and ask Ponyte where he was during that game. As a hint, Craig James thanked him for the block.
