To answer your question....no I doubt many of these "parade of thugs" getting arrested in Austin would be welcomed at SMU.

Read my statement ISP. I asked would we have welcomed them at time of committment. And then I asked if they would have acted differenty had they gone to SMU. Do you suggest that we have the magic bullet to keep kids from going bad?

Apparently, mrydel, SMU let one moron in and now he cannot comprehend a post on ponyfans. Perhaps he's right, and SMU should learn from this mistake.

Yeah, and I apologize for saying you are sad when we lose. I, of course, know that you are not sad when we lose but rather pleasantly surprised when we win. :D

It ain't just U.T., folks...it even happens in the Big Sky country. Just putting it into perspective.

Obviously the Longhorns are not the only "Thug U." in the nation. Hopefully Orsini and President Turner will agree that instead of SMU going the "Thug Route" like Montana State and Texas that there are better examples to follow.

Ash takes over for Mike Kramer, who was fired on May 18 after the arrest of a fifth current or former player within a year. Four face drug charges and a former player faces a murder charge.

Good for Montana State!.....now watch and see if UT comes close to ever firing their coach no matter how many more Longhorns are arrested this month.....what?....Has there already been two Texas Longhorns arrested in the last 2-3 weeks? Don't hold your breath! Mack is the safest "warden" passing out orange coveralls in the country!

Joseph was kicked off the team and is transferring from UT now. Good call by Mack.

Read my statement ISP.

I did and I just think you are missing my point.

I asked would we have welcomed them at time of committment.

Well is it not obvious that we (most of us fans) are not really looking at the fine details about potential recruits? Of course we are not looking at their background checks, academic records, speaking with their famlies and school officials, teachers, coaches to get a feel for what type of individuals they are and whether they are potential risky individuals. Sure we would be excited to hear we landed a potential great player, but if we also heard the "rest of the story"....ya know....reality.....then we may reconsider. We would be "cheering" but only know half the story.

And then I asked if they would have acted differenty had they gone to SMU.

mrydel...Thugs are usually going to act the same where ever they go and thats why many of these people/thugs wouldn't be at SMU even if they had chose SMU over the Longhorns. SMU is not going to let them in no matter how good they are. Could one slip through the cracks?...Well sure it can happen in life, but the pattern year after year of serious crime like at UT is not going to happen at SMU. SMU and many other schools obviously do a better job of "weeding out" (no pun intended) people that are going to be serious trouble makers and/or people that don't graduate.

Do you suggest that we have the magic bullet to keep kids from going bad?

I suggest reality is clearly stating that SMU and a host
of other institutions of higher learning are not encountering near the
scope of criminal behavior and non-graduating players as the Texas
Longhorns....and what?....You are suggesting that it is all just an accident?

That it is just a total coincidence that weapons, drugs, vehicle burglaries,
breaking into apartments, and two more Longhorns have been arrested in
the last two weeks alone is just a "total coincidence"?

Don't shoot the messenger.

"Longhorns fans tired of reading about current Texas players' problems with the law (Henry Melton and Robert Joseph) aren't going to like reading about this one either. Shaun Rogers, a defensive tackle with the Detroit Lions since 2001 after a successful career in Austin, is facing sexual assault allegations."
