We had a lot of people at the Rice game. Try winning games and playing games that mean something. SMU has had precious few of either.

per the SMU Magazine that came the other day, "a lot" means 2,000. At a meaningful game three hours away, in a city where we have some alumni. I'd have to think that number would be diluted more given a longer distance; perhaps the NO bowl would be somewhat of an exception because it's the Big Easy.

For these reasons, I'd hope for FW or Houston bowl trips

Ticket sales are the problem

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Jun 04, 2007 6:54 pm

Granted that winning cures cancer, that applies mainly to when you win BIG. Attendance and ticket sales govern bowl invitations. Orisini's new staff will need another throw back to the 80's (oh goodness, another retrospective reference to the pony express days) and produce a Pott's Mustang Mania when SMU goes bowling. The loyal corps of fans on this website will be standing on street corners selling tickets before this is done.

There is no way we only had 2000 at Rice. Did you see the picture of our fans on the visiting side? It was all red. The SMU magazine that came out with that estimate is full of it.

And how many SMU fans in the Houston area purchased tickets from the Rice ticket office, and how many SMU fans purchased tickets at the game? These would not count as SMU fan ticket sales. Since SMU has a rather large alumni base in the Houston area, I am sure there were a lot of these.
Just send 'da money.

If SMU goes to the New Orleans Bowl, there will be a bit of irony with your statement since so many people died inside and outside the Super Dome during Hurricane Katrina. :(

I will be pleasantly surprised if SMU makes it to a higher ranked bowl than the N.O. Bowl this year.

Bowl games?

Postby Charlie NT73 » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:01 pm

I think SMU should take any bowl game you qualify for. Last year, the
NOB was in your hands--until you lost to Rice. Would you have turned
down the NOB if things had work out? I don't think so.
The NOB is alot of fun! New Orleans is a good place to go!
As far as the predictions, was there another bowl possibility mentioned
in Phill Steel's mag? The football rag/mags are giving you guys alot of
love as far as W/L record-who knows- maybe things will work out,
except for our Sept 8th date. Dodge Ball will be coming to Ford this
year so expect a ton of Mean Green fans. (5000 fans for our spring game)
Coach Dodge and his staff have 7 commitments for the 2007 class now-
Cyrus Gray, the stud RB from DeSoto, will be visiting with Coach Dodge
this weekend, along with another 4 star guy, and several OL/DL prospects.
Gray wants to see how he could fit into Dodge Ball. Maybe commitment
# 8 will be announced soon!
