EXCITEMENT '68I know this football promotional campaign was pretty unique when it was introduced to drum up support for the '68 season. Is this attributed to Hayden Fry exclusively? I know he was an innovator and a motivator but I was wondering if this was initiated and handled "in house" or if an agency was involved. I remember the billboards and some of the print material but don't recall any TV promos. With Chuck Hixson at the helm, they made good on the slogan... it was definitely exciting.
I sold programs at the Cotton Bowl as an 11 year old that year and got into the games free. It's what got many of us hooked on SMU. By the way we got a dime profit for each program...
I remember before the season with no experience sophomore Chuck Hixson starting at QB, the joke was Excitement 68 SMU 0.

what a year!!!
Bluebonnet Bowl Special SMU 28 OU 27 BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Without a doubt, the 2nd most exciting and memorable SMU game I ever attended!
That's it! Thanks PK. Looking forward to the "unveiling" of the 2007 campaign.
