All-American Football League proposed

Postby Water Pony » Thu Jul 05, 2007 4:12 pm

Haven't seen any comment on the proposed All-American Football League, which will be linked geographically to colleges in Florida and Alabama (perhaps Texas)

Will this be the minor leagues for the NFL, leaving Arena FB out of the dicussion?

If this is happening alongside Cuban's upstart league, maybe I'll start my own league too. Seems like the trendy thing to do these days.

I think this is probably the best proposal for minor league football yet. At least they are scheduling it so that it wont conflict with established programs, and having an emphasis on local talent should really help too.

I'll wait for the product and reserve judgment, but I'll certainly give it a chance when the take the field.

I had season tickets to the USFL, what a disaster. I think it rained hard during every game I saw at RFK stadium and it of course cut short Craig James career when he blew out a knee. Imagine, if Craig and Herschal Walker had gone directly to the NFL instead of getting meat grindered in the USFL.

On the other hand, with no NFL Europe, a minor league would be good. I still think as much as it pains me to say this that if the NFL had a minor league that accepted 18 years olds, you'd go a long way to cleaning up college football because then you could really slam a school which outbid the minor league for the services of a star player. The only thing that I would like to see is an NCAA rule that if a player signs a pro contract out of high school and does not enroll in a college that he can restore his eligibility after one year. That way, if he goes out and tanks in this minor league, he can still get a scholarship and an education and not end up hauling garbage for a living.

Plus you had to watch it in RFK. That's punishment by itself.

RFK wasn't a bad stadium for football. It was small and cozy and when full was a real rocking place with the movable stands on the east sidelines that bounced. The Redskins just haven't been the same team since they moved to FedEx which is one of the worst stadia ever built.

I love RFK because there are always 35,000-40,000 empty seats for Nats games and you can get choice seats where ever you'd like for 5 dollars. Other than that the field is poor, the outfield is a total cavern, its old, delipidated, poor vendors, and traps heat like an oven. Granted the Nationals leave and it's a 40 year old stadium, but I still think it's pretty bad.
