Navy may be looking for a ConferenceIn today's Washington Examiner it was reported that Navy is a little nervous about future bowl opportunities and is now for the first time interested in considering a conference affiliation. Surprisingly, their AD said they are not too interested in the BE because they have nothing in common academically with the schools in that football conference. The ACC has schools that might suit them and the only other conference with that kind of make-up is CUSA with Tulane, Tulsa, Rice and SMU. Is Navy angling to join CUSA and if so, would we expand to 14 teams and if so who would we add? TCU? Army? AFA? Would they help our conference solidify its bowl slots and its television contracts? Navy already has a deal with CSTV and CBS for the Army-Navy game. Interesting possibility. I wouldn't mind seeing Navy in CUSA long term.
Just don't set off any fireworks to celebrate the announcement when the Middies join C-USA! ![]() I am in total agreement with you, jtstang. I wouldn't mind a road trip to Annapolis every now and then.
From 1998 to 2004, Army was a football member of Conference USA. They left to go independent again. I don't know why they decided to leave.
If Navy were to join the conference, I would think they would structure the deal such that the Army-Navy game would not be part of the revenue sharing for the conference. "It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."
If we could get Army and Navy that would be great. Even when they are bad they both have large national followings and a few national TV games every year. They would add prestige to the conference for sure.
