Did your brother play for SMU? and if so what years?
And you are right about switching up positions in soccer - you see it often in the World Cup, forwards for club teams switching to defense or midfield, though some players are born defenders or attackers and that is it. Lowery was great on Saturday. We got to see some spectacular catches, and some great running after the catch. He deserved to get in for a TD on the long one. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Some can switch positions, some can not, and that doesn't mean they don't "understand the concept of all positions." Sure, the guys who play for SMU are all exceptional players, and at one time or another, they likely have played virtually every position on the field. But think of some of the great players SMU has had. Would you want to see Alan Prampin defending? (I've actually seen it in a pick-up game - it's not pretty.) Want to see Tom Presthus playing midfield? How about throwing Cody Schroeder up front? Yes, soccer players are generally very versatile athletes, but that doesn't mean they can play switch positions any more easily than WRs and CBs can.
Soccer is a "simple game"? Go to one of Coach Hyndman's practices - there is nothing simple about what he teaches. With that approach, playing WR and CB is "simple," too. Look for the ball, and go catch it, huh? Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
