Go deep

Postby DallasDiehard » Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:48 am

The strength of the ASU defense is in its secondary, right? Ponies need to get the running game untracked. To do so, Willis needs to hit at least one deep route down the center of the field. ASU likes to sneak SS Tyrell Johnson up toward the line of scrimmage, almost like an extra LB, and if Sanders or Sledge or Lowery or someone can get free a long one, ASU will have to respect the deep ball and hopefully keep Johnson back a little ... thereby opening up the line of scrimmage a little for DeMyron Martin and James Mapps.

Very true.
I'd also like to see a big game for Vincent Chase and/or Andrew McKinney — after all, Vincent Chase had three TDs against ASU last year.

Tyrell has most of the tackles from the Texas game, and if that is a bellweather of tactic in their defensive strategy, he has the skills to move during play all over the field.

Their defense is strong. No doubt. SMU has to play smashmouth so they know they can't just push the guys around.
