Worst defense post DP

Postby fan » Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:34 pm

Looked up the team stats post DP. Our defense this year is the worst BY A MILE when compared to all teams post DP. I went through this effort because I don't ever remember watching an SMU team get torched this badly in the last 25 years on D. The stats listed below are staggering. And we are supposed to have better athletes than in years past? I don't know the answer to that one but I would assume this is not the worst group of athletes we've had on the D side of the ball since 1990. Thoughts Stallion?

Stallion kind of answered the question above on another thread. If we are not going to play DMart on offense why don't we find a way to get our best athletes on the field and play him at LB? Might seem crazy but at this point what do we have to lose?

The pass defense problem

The passing defense stats are what makes 2007 the worst.

I understand Martin is a RB but it appears he is not used or used properly. Why should one of best athletes sit on the bench when our TEAM needs help? If not Martin then lets get someone else from offense to move over to the D side and help. The stats show they could use any little bit they can get.

You had to know that Bennett wasn't the guy when he didn't keep him around. Schumann was an amazing coach considering how little talent he had to make do with. Maybe we should consider bringing him back as head coach?

We tried that with Fitgerald and Lowery among others and it hasn't worked so well. Figure out a system that fits your personell. I would love to see Marin behind a blocking fullback - like McKinney for example.

Another quick point: ytd we have allowed either a QB, WR, RB a career game. Quite honestly I know nothing about TCU but just a gut tells me a RB will tear us up. Thoughts? Flames?

I'm with you, but DeMyron is not suitable for this schizophrenic OC.

Reminder: D'Mart was a pretty good HS LB up until his Sr year at Allen HS.

Schumann was/is a great DC, but he is a pretty laid back guy...not sure that would equate to a good HC. Having said that, I would love to see him back here as our DC.
