from Kate the Great's dispatch, 9/26
Willis' average passing (236.2) and rushing (63) yards are up from 2006 (186.1 passing and 32.3 rushing). But he has already matched his interception total (six), his passer efficiency rating has dipped from 158.4 to 115.6, and his completion rate has fallen from 67.4 to 57.0.
SMU is averaging 22.3 points per game after averaging 27.1 last season.
"He had a very successful freshman year, so everybody wants to elevate it to...you've got to go above," said Rusty Burns, SMU's offensive coordinator. "He can't be the only one. He has to distribute the ball and get it to the people quickly that can make plays. We've had a lot of drops and a lot of busts."
Burns said the offense is moving the ball, but it needs to be more consistent. That means getting in the end zone when the Mustangs have chances in the red zone and cutting down on three-and-outs.

Coach Burns is right. Willis is great, but he has to get more production from others, or he's going to get killed before the season's over.
Starts Saturday.

I can't believe Burns isn't taking some responsibility for this. The big thing asked of Willis this year is get into manageable 3rd down plays, and he's done that. But the playcalling on 3rd down has been ludricous.
First game at Tech we had 3rd and 4 or less 3 times that I remember, twice we ran it for losses, and once we threw deep, and it was similar agains UNT.
And against TCU, Martin was tearing it up but Burns decided to abandon the run and made Willis a sitting duck against the TCU blitzes.
And 4th and one and you have Martin blocking???
Heck, I blame Burns for 1-3 more than I blame Bennett!

I blame Bennett for keeping Burns around, not being able to coach a defense anymore, poor game management skills, continually regressing recruiting classes, special teams breakdowns, and the swinging gate.
However, he is a nice guy.
