The first thing I envisioned when I heard the news was SMU in the top 25. It can happen. It's no secret that I knew that Bennett was not going to be able to make that happen. No slight against his football knowledge - he just didn't have "it" as a coach.
This would have not happened with the previous AD. I think the first big step was in hiring an AD that is willing to invest in a fair market value coach. With small successes, the program will converge on self-funding. I am not an expert on college sport finances, so I don't even know if any program is completely self-funded. I just know we have to dip into the red to see black.
I can hardly wait to see SMU in the top 25. I know it can happen inside of three years.
