This may have been brought up at the time but I find the most interesting statement in this write up from Bennett saying he recruited Alridge but could not get him into school.

Anthony Alridge never even considered SMU on his list of schools. His choices as a 3-star coming out of Denton were as follows:

Houston (signed with)
Iowa State
Kansas
Texas Tech
Texas A&M

Why would he want to play for your sorry program anyway? I mean I'm sure Phil Bennett knows what hes talking about... after all he won a WHOPPING 18 games in 6+ years. Man thats impressive.
