The company that has been hired to do the search is looking for what? Do they check his credit, standing with NCAA, standing with college he last coached, recruiting records, games won or lost in conference or on the road?....or just a profile to present to the commit that has been selected to do the dirty work? They may just get the ground work done to get things underway? Just curious as to what all they do look for.
They act as an intermediary to determine interest in the job from Coaches without direct contact. I think that's the biggest reason Schools use these firms. I wouldn't want an AD who didn't already have the contacts to come up with his own list of qualified candidates.
I can recall a situation where a school told the firm the kind of coach they wanted, and a name not commony mentioned among the likely candidates was found and ultimately hired...TTech & Mike Leach.
