Since nobody has answered, I will. This is a guess. Two will be brought in. Only one will be serious.

If more than 3 are interviewed then something has gone terribly wrong-and it could.

I'm new to this board and new to Dallas. I was just transferred about a month ago from Georgia.

I am a big time college football fan, and went to the N. Texas game. I really liked your stadium and the campus was really nice. So I am maybe the newest Mustang fan.

I think I might have picked the right time because from everything that I read it does sound like the school is going to do whatever they can to get a really good coach and have a winning team.

It should be very interesting to see who they hire. I have read the rumors, and the names being thrown around and I also just read this thread and it sounds like some people "in the know" might think that it's already a done deal?

nobody ever really knows how many are brought in to seriously be interviewed. sometimes, they bring people in by just meeting them at the airport or meeting somewhere discreet. not everyone gets brought back to the office of Steve-O

How many will be brought to Dallas to be interviewed? Maybe none.

Surely someone at SMU owns a private jet. Orsini, Turner, Gerry Ford and one of the Hunts could easily meet a coach at an undisclosed location. That's how the big boys do it. Saves the school and candidates the embarassment of being seen on campus if the school turns him down, or he turns down SMU.

What, do they have to parade the candidates in front of the faculty first? There's no good reason to bring a candidate to campus unless you're ready to hire him.

A candidate might want to see the facilities first-hand, but with a still-new stadium, locker rooms, weight room, etc. that's probably not an issue. SMU's facilities are used by Cotton Bowl teams. Any worthy candidate would know someone who is familiar with SMU's facilities - maybe even a coach on the Bennett or Cavan staffs.

Location isn't an issue, either. No coach's wife should have a concern about Dallas and living in Highland Park, especially compared to where a lot of other colleges are located.

If both sides do their homework, it's more likley that when ONE candidate comes to campus to meet with the "search committee" it will be more coronation than interview.

LOL.. thanks for the welcome. Might be a small crowd of people, but everybody I talked to was really friendly.

I have to believe that SMU is a little diamond in the rough. Dallas is a great city.

Does anyone know why Orsini left UCF for SMU? He did a lot of great things there. I think - and no offense - but the SMU job seems more like a sideways move than a step up to a bigger program - same conference, etc. My sister went to UCF, so I was kind of following them for a while. When they had Culpepper it sure looked like that team would really come along faster than USF. Maybe he just likes a good challenge?

I am not in the know, but he has spent time in Dallas with the Cowboys, and therefore has Dallas ties. Also, I don't specifically remember, but I assume he also got a significant pay raise. Others will chime in with specifics.

Welcome to Dallas and SMU. We are glad you are aboard. I am hopeful you will bring us some of the luck we have missed for the last 20 years and that you will see an upswing in FB soon.

Trying not to be a homer here, but besides the pay raise I think you have to say SMU is a higher profile job in a major media market city - no offense to UCF - but its not a well known school. SMU was not a huge step up for Orsini but it was a step up.
