Rice-A-Roni Saturday - this week's dish

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:10 pm

Anybody notice that we are still playing football games? Does beating Rice on Saturday still matter? At least the game is not in Houston or we would be in trouble for sure. Do the ponies score a win? Sure, why not.
Anybody... Buehler, Buehler.

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Unfortunately our football season is over. I will be surprised if we have 8000 people at the Rice game. Isn't that pitiful - two schools from major metropolitan areas within the same state can't draw a crowd.

Now we can see why the SWC broke up - Texas, A&M, Arkansas were tired of carrying the conference. Sell out crowds when either of them would play an SMU, RIce, TCU, Baylor but when either of the fore mentioned teams player each other - nothing (excepting a few outlier years when SMU and Baylor were good).

SMU first has to win an CUSA title. Very doable.
Next schedule and beat lower teir BCS teams. Very doable.
Then bring in 1 upper BCS team for a competitive contest.
This progression and strong non conference schedule will excite SMU fans and get season tickets sold. They should discount the hell out of season tickets to get revenue and butts in the seats. Make them cheaper than game day general adm.

What about a little peer pressure? I would like to see a campaign where you refer a friend and get a discount, or some sort of email campaign around ticket purchasing time...send the ticket purchase link to a friend.

We are not going to get more people in the seats without good old word of mouth. This is going to be great football weather this weekend...no holiday...we should have 20,000.

But can we win Saturday?

Anybody see a chance for SMu to catch up with Rice? After all they have twice as many wins this year as we do. We need parity with the owls now. I'm a very sick man.
