Cutcliff in the realm of possibility?

Postby GeorgiaMustang » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:54 pm

Just tossing out the name, but he seems to fit the criteria. Major headcoaching experience, current SEC OC, had success with Eli Manning and Ole Miss. Haven't heard his name mentioned, but I thought that while we're speculating at who our next coach will be.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

Potential is nothing, performance is everything.

I believe the SMU job would have a better than average chance of doing physical harm to David Cutcliffe. Really. Guy's got a heart condition. Not that SMU is not an EOE or anything, but I'm just saying. You wouldn't hire a diabetic to be the Ben & Jerry's taste tester.

Speaking of. With Blue Bell much better, and a Texas product to boot, why in the he** is that Ben & Jerry crap the official ice cream of Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Makes about as much sense as the Amtrak promotion. The typical game day occupant of Ford Stadium seats just don't seem to be the three day to go cross country kind of crowd.

my guess would be that the official answer sounds something like

"we surveyed many Top 25 schools across the country, and many of those schools similarly had official ice creams which made no sense based on the geography of the ice cream in general and the school in particular.

Our standards for ice cream are very competitive nationally with ice cream standards from across the country. Our goal is to be Top 25 in all flavors in our ice cream department

Nice work. Like you, I think it important to clear up some misconceptions about ice cream standards at SMU.

Shouldn't that be top 31 flavors?

Six flavors melted while standing in line at the concession stand.

I mentioned Cutcliffe several times over the past month. Given Turner's desire to turn SMU into Ole Miss west, I would not be surprised if Cutcliffe was not on the interview list. The guy can coach and can recruit. If he can turn Ole Miss into a winning program, he certainly is better than what we've had in recent years. His name would not make a splash though like a Bowden, Shula or Barnett would.

^I agree...no one in TX will care about hiring Cutcliffe. He was generally a pretty nice guy, but boring when it came to coaching. I think they fired him from Ole Miss just b/c was never excited on the sidelines, and I think in my 4 years at Ole Miss, we went for it on 4th down maybe twice. He is not what you call a "gutsy" play caller.

He was successful at Ole Miss - something like 5 or 6 bowl game appearances in a row, many of them wins, concluding with the Cotton Bowl victory in 2003 over OSU. But, in general, I don't think he was very well like there, which is part of the reason why he was gone once he had a season w/o a winning record.

I do not think hiring him at SMU is a good idea at all. Thats my opinion at least...
