Hey guys. I'm a long-time reader of this site but I've never posted before. I figured the rest of you may find this interesting. One of my good friends works in the athletic depatment at Ohio University. Knowing that I'm a big SMU fan, he called me today to tell me that he heard the Mustangs are interested in bringing in Solich for an interview. Granted, I don't know if this is true but my friend has no reason to lie to me. It makes sense if you think about it. Solich has done a good job at Ohio and his days at Nebraska are looking better and better by the week. Anyway, just thought I would pass along the info for those interested. Take care.

Solich seems like a class act, but i'd rather have another nebraska guy, Turner Gill. I can't believe that Gill would not leave buffalo to come back to Texas.

I have some inside info, and I KNOW that Gill won't leave Buffalo to come to SMU, if he is going anywhere it will be Nebraska. Solich though is a class act, he was solid at Nebraska and ran a good program at Ohio. He won't be around for that much longer though. I think we can do better, but no question he would give his all to make it work here at SMU! Which in the end is definitely what we want.

Frank Solich is a very good coach and knows how to run a solid program. That said, Mike Shula is younger and would be a better choice if Bowden is not going to our coach. In recruiting, Bowden and Shula would be awesome. Frank Solich would also be a better recruiter than PB.

I actually think Solich could be the surprise hire that Orsini has been considering. I have not heard peep about him though. Drawbacks - He is almost 64. He also has a few blemishes and Ohio is only like 5-6 this year. Not a wow hire this year but could have been last year.

solich is a terrible coach. he was handed the NEB job, and didn't do much with it. hasn't done squat at Ohio other than get a DUI. not the guy we need.
SMU needs a BIG hire that can win games now AND has name equity.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Frank Solich has more success than Turner Gill on a higher level. Hiring Turner Gill would be too experimental. Almost like hiring another coordinator.

Solich is a control freak who turned Nebraska into a mid-conference team which in turn, Bill Callahan took to the depths we find ourselves today. We need a departure from these types of retreads.
Folks up north will tell you Solich was a lousy recruiter. He vetoed signing Cedric Benson when he wanted to go to Nebraska. Their level of player consistently declined under his watch. That was one reason he was let go then.
We need to hire someone who knows how to build a program, not run it into the ground.
