I love the rumor that Butch wanted to come here last year but Turner would not let him. How does that make any sense? One of the most sought after college head coaches, who was on the Cowboys Staff when they won a Superbowl, and has a reputation as the guy who cleaned up Miami wants to come to SMU and we said no, we like Phil Bennet and his 17 wins over the last 5 years? You people are high. You think Steve Orsini would not have quit on the spot? You think if that info got back to Gerald Ford's of the world that Turner would not have been run out of town? Turner may be dumb, but he is not stupid.
The version I heard wasn't quite that dramatic. I heard that he and Steve-O have some sort of a friendly relationship, and were, in fact, talking about the opening, but that Steve-O didn't have the authority to go high enough with the dollars. Reports I've heard suggest that he has been authorized to double Coach Bennett's salary.

Turner wouldn't let Orsini make a move until the season was over, by that time, Butch was gone.

Your reports on new coach's salary are low.

Does Nutt still go if Arkansas beats LSU? They are up 14-6 right now.

you people are insane....one of the reasons orsins took this job was that he would be left alone to do his job.....Turner wanted to hire Evans from ASU to be the Basketball coach...he thought that he would be the best guy to make the DISD coaches happy. Orsini said no dice, we can do better and that was before he was officially the AD.

Orsini left Orlando for 1)more money 2)total control and 3) he thought SMU had potiental and if he turned it around he could go anywhere

Incorrect. Beating LSU was a great win. But Nutt is still gone.

WE laughed because it was a ridiculous hire. No ties to Texas and can't coach. Wow, what a hire.
