Elsewhere in college football...Ron Turner is in his 7th year at Illinois. Two years ago he was the Big 10 coach of the year. This year he is 0-6 against D-1 competition and getting blown out most of the time. Whats the difference? Did he wake up one day and forget how to coach offense? Not quite. He had this qb named Kurt Kittner who is now starting in place of Michael Vick for the Atlanta Falcons. The current qb is tall with a strong arm, but just doesn't make plays. Sound familiar? Nacho will probably call me an apologist. I am not, there is no excuse for SMU to be this bad. But I will blame the university, not a second year head coach who inherited a disaster. Bennett is part of the solution.
Re: Elsewhere in college football...I agree with Hoop Fan - Phil Bennett is part of the solution.
Coach Bennett probably uses every ounce of his abundant optimism and charm to wrestle each day with the problems he inherited.
