Not in Texas you dumb [deleted]. Do you want to resurrect a program or build a program. This program is dead. The word dead has been used too many times the last 20 years. We need someone that can build a program from scratch. We are ground zero. Wait I am not Nick Saban!

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia exercised an option to add a year onto the contract of coach Al Groh, who guided the Cavaliers to a 9-3 record this season.

Groh's deal will now run through the 2011 season.

Groh, who won Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year honors Tuesday, said he was appreciative of the "gesture," but hadn't thought about the extension since last year.

"I don't coach for contracts. I coach for the players and for the sense of accomplishment that comes from our achieving together," he said.

Virginia finished 9-3 in the regular season and ranked No. 22. The Cavaliers lost on Saturday 33-21 to No. 6 Virginia Tech in a game to determine the Coastal Division's representative in the ACC championship against No. 15 Boston College.

With its bowl destination yet to be determined, the Cavaliers still have a chance to become only the second team in school history to win 10 games.

Bowden will get contract extension
Phillips declares school’s intention in quick meeting with the coach
By PAUL STRELOW - [email protected]

CLEMSON — As he stood outside Clemson’s locker room Saturday night, athletics director Terry Don Phillips bore a gleeful, if not relieved, smile.

Phillips would not admit as such, but he exuded the sense that the Tigers’ 23-21 victory against USC cleared the path for administrators to lock up coach Tommy Bowden contractually with little room for criticism.

He took the first step Monday, informing Bowden the school would offer him a contract extension.

Clemson spokesman Tim Bourret confirmed that Phillips and Bowden met briefly and an extension offer was promised.

However, terms have yet to be agreed upon, and the meeting did not serve as the extensive year-end review Phillips conducts with each Tigers head coach.

“There will be further meetings to discus the terms of the extension in the coming day,â€

Chan Gailey. He's not my first choice, but I think he would be a solid selection. In six years at Georgia Tech (same number Phil had at SMU) he was 44-32, a respectable but not too impressive record. He never had a losing season and went to a bowl every year (granted, three of those bowls were the Silicon Valley Classic, the Humanitarian Bowl and the Emerald Bowl). His cardinal sin at Georgia Tech was never beating Georgia.

With the Cowboys he was 10-6 (won the division) and 8-8 (second in the division), and both seasons he led them to the playoffs. By comparison, the year before he took over the Cowboys they were 6-10 (finished fourth in the division) and the year afer he left they were 5-11 (finished fourth in the division). And the fact is, he was handed a Cowboys team with superstars at the tail-end of their careers. Not a bad record. He's someone I believe could return us to respectability.
I HATE the University of Texas!
