From what I have read on your own Navy sports message boards, you are sitting at your desk deep in thought and plagued by the choice you have in front of you. Maybe you are curiously trolling the Duke, GT, Navy and SMU message boards to listen to what the real fans have to say. If so, let me say a few words about our SMU family and how much we would love for you to be a part of it.
You are looking at a sleeping giant, a program that has tasted the highest of highs and, over the past 20 years, the lowest of lows. We are a program that can boast the names of Doak Walker, Kyle Rote, Don Meredith, Eric Dickerson, Craig James and many others. We are a school that from 1980-1985 had the winningest program in NCAA football, only to be unfairly crucified for things that most programs do on a daily basis today.
We are a school situated in a city of 1.2 million people, most of whom are used to rooting for a winner, and who would jump at the chance of having another quality game on saturdays to see live and in person.
We are a fan base that would live, breathe, and die SMU football if only we were given a reason to do so. The coach that could guide us to a bowl, a C-USA championship and possibly a top 25 ranking would become the favorite son of Dallas, SMU, and the nation.
We would be the true underdog story (and based on your wife's quotes, you always root for the underdog).
Georgia Tech and Duke may be able to boast a BCS conference, but Texas is a FOOTBALL state. We are not in ACC country, we are in our OWN country..Texas country. And Texas country is about football.
