Now that would be a "WOW" hire...perhaps for the wrong reason.

Usually, the guy who ends up getting the job is the one you haven't been hearing about.

Otherwise known as nondescript coordinator.

For all the "he's been out of coaching for 9 years" talk I only have one response:
- Bennett was in coaching when we hired him
- Galiey was in coaching when he was hired
- Spurrier was in coaching when he was hired
- Fran was in coaching when he was hired
- Orgeron was in coaching when he was hired
Plus, it's not like Bowden hasn't been watching football in depth for 9 years (CALLED ABC SPORTS). If anything he has had the benefit to see what is working in college and what isn't.

I don't think he should be out, but why isn't he coaching? The coaching fraternity knows something. He could be working for his father or brother, if nothing else. Somethings not right here. He has been out of coaching for 9 years. Whats up with that. Not real familiar with the Bowden family due to being bored with Papa Bowden, but something is not right here. If there is any question about morales or values, SMU will not bite.

He hasn't been coaching by choice. When he left Auburn he went to ABC and landed THE job - studio analyst, then went into the booth, etc. I heard him on Jim Rome a few weeks ago - he said that he's never taken an interview since he left Auburn, but the last year and a half he has been preparing to come back. That he just couldn't stay out anymore - he was born and raised to be a coach. So - he is making himself available for the first time since he left Auburn.

Sensible bigdaddy is posting tonight. There's got to be some reason but I'm ready to know the reason. If I took 9 years off from my job, I think I could do a little studying and catch up...I like Paul Johnson but I also want someone who wants to be here. I think Terry's going to work his a$s off for anyone who hires him.

Being out of coaching for nine years.....I wonder how that would affect his ability to assemble a top notch staff.

With the caliber of players Bowden will bring, he can hire a spider monkey as Defensive Cordinator and we'll still dominate in C-USA. It's all about the players much more than the coach. Plus, I love the fact he wants to be at SMU. Paul Johnson looks like he is just using us for a free dinner at Bobs, and a means to up the $$$$$ from Duke and GT. We're so being using. I hate this.

Donors, lock up your daughters. How's that for morals or values?

Insane_Pony_Posse wrote:I keep watching people post that "Terry Bowden has been out of coaching for too long".....but didn't [deleted] Vermeil retire from the Philadelphia Eagles in 1982 and not return to coaching until 1997 when he returned to coach the St. Louis Rams and eventually led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory after the 1999 season. Of course no two situations are identical, but in my opinion Bowden is still relatively young and the fact that Terry Bowden has not coached in several years should not preclude him from being considered at SMU.
Let's not get confused about the two levels of the game. We are considering Bowden for a college HC job where the players are not getting paid and the HC has to go into some homes to recruit. Two different things. My concern would be his coaching staff, how much energy he could bring to the sidelines and if he just thinkd SMU would be an easy paycheck for a couple of years. I know Orsini is smarter than that, and possible one reason why Bowden is not on the list. There are some out there that would come in just for the easy paycheck. We need a HC with something to lose!

I'm just so upset that Orsini is letting SMU get tooled around like this by Paul Johnson. It's been 2 days now! Either, you want to be her or you don't. Orsini should have brought Luca Brasi with him and made Johnson an offer he couldn't refuse.
