How long would it take you...

Postby SMUMan02 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 9:27 am

I think we need to lay off of PJ. We are letting our desire to have this thing wrapped up cloud our common sense. If you were offered a job that was arguably not any better than your current job - except for the fact that you might get more money - but you had to move across the country, how long would it take you to decide?
If we are to take him at his word, he didn't even start considering new jobs until last Saturday so it has been less than a week. We got ourselves into this situation by going after PJ and now we have to live with the consequences. We are not U Michigan were every coach in the NFL and college are interested in our job. We targeted our guy, who was honorable enough to wait until the season was over to start considering new jobs and now he is considering offers. This is Steve-O's guy and he got us into this situation, not PJ. If I were a reasonably successful head coach, I'd have to give it some thought before I took this job that has traditionally been a coach killer.

Very true, but then you look at Houston Nutt and Ole Miss. The deal was wrapped up in a matter of hours after his PC at Arkansas. And Ole Miss isn't exactly an SEC powerhouse.

GT very publicly interviewed Terry Bowden and all say it went well. I think this was done to speed up PJ's decision. Smokescreen, if you will, to show PJ that there are other candidates available.

I would love PJ as our coach, but at some point you have to man up and make a decision. He had to know weeks ago which schools would be contacting him, and he has had ample time to research the situations.

I think we need to go public with an interview of Neuheisel (sp) today.

Hey Tyler TX, how's life over your way? Cloudy and humid over here. Somebody said it was going to be rainy and warm tomorrow...doesn't sound like weather for a Christmas parade with 140 entries, does it? Yuck.

Come over and see the lights...and if you stay a little while, grab a bite to eat at The Bluefrog Grill downtown, or perhaps play some shuffleboard (only one in the county) upstairs in OS2. Starbucks coffee and tea are served at the R&R Bakery with the best lemon bar in 23 counties, and the wine shop (Under the Texas Sun), Weisman & Co (antiques), and Charlie & Bella's (The Pottern Barn meets The Candy Store).

Closest thing one will find to "It's a Wonderful Life" anywhere around...and we are working hard to expand the fun.

I work at a law firm that does patent work, so we spend plenty of time in Marshall and I do plan to come and check out the lights again. Do you know if there is an East Texas Alumni Association?

The only report that I have seen was in the DMN when N called us a diamond in the rough, and I don't remember if it said that we had contacted him or not directly or through the search firm.

I don't necessarily disagree with this. I certainly hope we are doing something behind the scenes in case PJ curbs us.

Actually, it sounds to me that his agent is keeping things stirred up...guess he is hoping to up his cut. Duke was pretty well on to looking for someone else when PJ's agent calls them up and says you are still in the mix if you do this and do that. No wonder PJ is having such a hard time making a decision. I may be wrong, but didn't we make the first offer and got his going price up pretty quickly. If personal relationships mean any thing to him then his relationship with Steve O and Vaught (sp?) ought to give our offer a leg up. If on the other hand the greed factor has come into play, then cut him off and go on to the next viable candidate.

Is this kind of a chicken or the egg thing...yeah our coaches have been killed, but were they truly experienced enough, and given the right ammunition to fight the battle?

I agree with you, but I think the perception definitely is that it's a coach killer. I just hope someone realizes that could just as easily be a hero if they had moderate success here.
