Isn't Koetter widely regarded as the guy who MADE Boise State what it is (before Dan Hawkins took over and got a bunch of credit)? Both great coaches, I guess, but if you can take a non-factor like Boise State and make it relevant on a national scene as Koetter did .... sign him up.

yes, that's absolutely right, Dirk Koetter made Boise a winning program before going to ASU. for me, the huge success of what he did at Boise outweighs his mediocrity at ASU.

his 3 years at Boise: (and Boise was 5-6 the previous year)

Boise State 1998 6-5 (2-3, 4th Big West)
Boise State 1999 10-3 (5-1, 1st) Humanitarian Bowl (Defeated Louisville 34-31)
Boise State 2000 10-2 (5-0, 1st) Humanitarian Bowl (Defeated UTEP 38-23)
